Muriel Herring is a member of The Art Students League of New York, Long Island Black Artist Association, an Affiliate Member of the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport, Village Art Club of Rockville Center, and the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Kappa Pi International Honorary Art Fraternity at Adelphi University.
Muriel’s work has been shown in numerous solo and juried exhibits on Long Island, Connecticut and NYC as well as juried exhibitions with the Art League of Nassau County, the Visual Art Alliance of Long Island, the Long Island Black Artist Association and The Women of Color Quilters Network. She is also represented in numerous private collections.
As a Sculptor, Muriel’s primary medium of choice is clay which she uses to sculpt or create hand-built ceramics or sculptural pottery. She also occasionally works with plaster and stone. As a Painter, she uses acrylic paints on canvas to create colorful imagery of women, trees, and other elements found in nature. In her drawings Muriel practice the technique of Pointillism using permanent markers or colored inks to give a three dimensional and sculptural feel to the imagery.
A recipient of numerous honorable mentions, achievement and merit awards, she received a Certificate of Recognition from the Town of Hempstead, New York for her solo exhibition “A Retrospective – 20 Years” held at Adelphi University in January 2006 and her solo exhibition “Exploring Line, color & Movement” held at the Freeport Memorial Library in February 2007.
Muriel Herring currently resides in Long Island, New York with her family.
